An inside look – 275 Glen Manor Drive East
Every once in a while we come across a luxury Beach home that is so unique that we want to share how it was created and the experience of living there.
275 Glen Manor Drive East is one such home.
The inside look…
Our interview with the homeowners reveals its character and we have also sought the perspective of the architect who originally designed the home.
We asked the architect, Mary Ellen Lynch, about her inspiration for the home.
“The inspiration for this house was a true classical palazzo, taking cues from the famous 16th century Italian architect, Andrea Palladio. The double height front porch (by far my favourite aspect of this unique house), the built-in cornice moulding/eavestrough, the palladian windows and the classic plan layout with grand stair hall are all qualities that we find in classical architecture. The unique setting up on the hill providing two distinct faces and spaces, while also providing two private garden spaces each with their own character is another incredible feature.”
The home owners shared with us their thoughts and experience of living at 275 Glen Manor Drive East…
What made you fall in love with this home?
The location, the architecture and the design. Before purchasing this property, we lived nearby and watched it being built and, although intrigued, had no plans to move until after it was completed when we were invited to take a closer look by our agent.
We immediately fell in love with the design, size and spaciousness of this beautiful house. The location overlooking Glen Stewart Park on Glen Manor, an impressive ravine boulevard, in the midst of mature trees was, and is, utterly unique in the city.
The design, incorporating an outstanding Loggia and an exquisite marriage of traditional and open-style concepts won us over to the possibilities for enjoyable living spaces and the facility for entertaining a pretty large number of guests in interesting contiguous spaces.
What have been some of your favourite memories in this home?
This house is perfect for entertaining. We frequently have large gatherings of our extended family including at Christmas when, with ample room for guests to enjoy their favourite festive activities in the glow of three fireplaces, the home really shines.
Summer gatherings in our backyard are always enjoyable under the shade of majestic oak trees in a quiet, secluded oasis in the middle of the city.
It is the perfect setting for dinner parties during the summer months. It is easy to entertain both family and business friends in this beautiful home, the high quality of finishes, the attractive layout and the views create an atmosphere conducive to any form of entertainment!
Numerous cocktail receptions and dinner parties for business colleagues from around the world number amongst our fondest memories. This home combines modernity with an old-world charm which always impresses us and guests alike.
What are its most unique features?
This home has many unique features; it is very private and quiet. The location alone is outstanding. On the one hand, the house is situated on a rise overlooking a beautiful boulevard but, on the other, has level access from a long private driveway, with parking for up to five cars, at the rear.
The beautifully appointed Loggia affords an elegant and unusual entrance to this spacious home. In and of itself, the two-story Loggia is truly unique affording outdoor living at its best. Once inside, the foyer opens to a wide hall leading to an elegant staircase and spacious rooms.
The master suite overlooks the park through tree tops prompting our grandson to liken it to a tree-house. With high ceilings, even the lower level has an abundance of natural light. Uniquely, the home offers exquisite living and entertaining spaces made accessible by an elevator that serves every level.
The backyard is a quiet and shaded oasis, perfect for normal outdoor activities and entertaining family as well as business guests.
