Staging Tips for Holiday Decorating!
Transforming Your Home for the Holidays
Our Staging Manager Bianca shares her tips for making your home a holiday wonderland!
The holiday season is here, and it’s one of our favourite times of year! The decorations, the parties, the homemade cookies, and drinks that warm you right up! For Bianca, there are four key things that really help transform your home during these cold winter months into an inviting space of warmth and cheer. Even a sprinkle from each category, and you will want the snow to keep piling up right outside your door. Cheers to a wonderful holiday season, and decking out those halls!
Table garland, sprigs and branches, wreaths, and of course, a Christmas tree, will bring the outdoors in and really make your home warm and festive.
Staging Tip for Garland:
Have faux greenery that you bring out every year (cedar garland and fraser fir branches are my personal favourite) and then go out into the garden or to a nursery and integrate fresh stems within it. It will give your faux-liege a natural look and you’ll get that fresh–cut Christmas tree smell!
Staging Tip for Wreaths:
Think beyond green and just hanging on the front door…over the bed, in front of a mirror or layered amongst artwork on the shelf can be great. You can also take an existing wreath and add additional greenery and whimsical touches…they can even be edible!
Staging Tip for your Tree:
As the centrepiece of your home, choose a colour scheme and theme that you carry through your whole home whether it’s a simple neutral palette of whites, metals and wood, or an explosion of colour and playing with eclectic patterns and colours, do what makes you happy!
Lighting and Ambiance
What is it about candlelight and soft glow of the holiday lights that conjures cozy feelings of love and romance and good times with family and friends?
Staging Tip for your Lighting:
It doesn’t take much but a simple string of white lights through the garland, your shelves and mantle and even along the table can be amazing. You can find battery powered string lights now that spare the awkward placement of cords and allow your creativity to flourish like putting them along your dining table as part of your centerpiece. And don’t forget to dim the lights and light the candles to complete the look!
Decorations and Decorating
Sprucing up (pun intended) your home decor to compliment your holiday theme will help make the space feel cohesive and pull together beautifully.
Staging Tip for Décor:
Switch up the pillows on your sofa and bed. It doesn’t have to be a very literal “Christmas pillow” but patterns and textures that reflect your theme and the season. A nice cozy faux fur throw, some plaid, velvet, or complimentary colours that only come out for these one or two months a year but can still last the winter months.
Everyone has their favourite holiday songs and the music sets the mood and spirit for your space.
Staging Tip for Music:
Consider music part of the layering and keep it as a compliment to your background. Acoustic versions of songs are great for this and you can dive into any of our favourite holiday playlists on Spotify!
